Designed, worked and copywrighted by Helen Bailey

32 larger gold beads are required.
These are added at joins, indicated by <bj> in the pattern
(see instructions below).
51 smaller gold beads are required.
These are threaded onto the thread that will make the chains
and 3 beads are pushed onto a picot indicated by <p3b> in
the pattern.
The tatting is worked in three pieces.

At Chain i join to 3rd and 4th picots of Piece One.
When complete, firmly stiffen. I used full
strength "Stiffy".
Attach ribbons to Chains C and it is ready
If worked in Cotton Perle 8 the mask is just about the right size
for an adult to wear!
(bj = beaded join)
This is a very useful technique for adding beads without having
to put them on the thread before you start to tat. In order to do
this you MUST make sure that the picots are going to be big
enough to take the bead and allow room to make the join. When you
come to a beaded join, thread the bead onto the crochet hook,
hook onto the picot, slide the bead onto the picot, make the join.
The join is covered by the bead. I assure you it is easier to do
than explain!
